Berwick announces opening date

The external façade is complete and the builders are now focusing their attention on the internal fit out. Initially, the hospital will open with 110 beds, five operating theatres and one procedure room. 

St John of God Berwick Hospital Chief Executive Officer Lisa Norman said the possibility of commissioning all 190 beds and fitting out the sixth theatre at the same time was currently being explored.

Intensive care and cardiac services, including the Cardiovascular Interventional Lab, will open in early February 2018. 

A recruitment campaign to fill about 200 new employment opportunities within the new hospital will commence in mid-July.

Significant progress has also been made to repurpose and rename the Gibb St facility to create a rehabilitation hospital to support the main hospital and the broader community.
