Student placements

At St John of God Health Care, we support students to start their health careers with us through training in clinical settings and ongoing investment in education as a foundation to high-quality care.

Placements and requests from education providers

We partner with education providers to offer student placements and work integrated learning opportunities to select people who require experience as part of their TAFE or university studies across many clinical areas of health care. We offer these opportunities directly through education providers and not directly with students.

The benefits of a partnership with St John of God Health Care

The opportunities we can provide education providers and their students includes:

  • placements for students across a number of clinical areas including nursing, midwifery and allied health.
  • offering fellowship programs for students to complete all of their clinical learning placements with us, providing the opportunity to become familiar with our hospitals and processes, enhancing the learning experience, and improving student employment prospects.
  • enabling nursing students to work as assistants in nursing (AINs) who support patients with hands-on nursing tasks under the care and supervision of senior nurses.
  • offering student midwife employed positions in partnership with universities to support registered nurses to complete their Graduate Diploma in Midwifery studies, while working with us to meet their clinical practice requirements.

Locations

We offer a variety of student placement experiences across our locations.

Workplace learning experience

Education providers may also seek short term workplace learning experiences that support secondary or post-secondary education students to observe a particular workplace setting and develop transferable and discipline specific skills to support future career decision making. A work experience placement does not form an academic requirement for an education program. If it does form part of an academic requirement of an education program, then it would be considered a student placement.

Education providers can email our student placement team directly to enquire about opportunities.

Placements or work experience requests from students

St John of God Health Care does not accept requests for placements directly from students. If you are interested in completing a placement at one of our locations, as part of your TAFE or university studies, you will need to firstly speak with your education provider. They can assist you with your options and help you obtain a placement.
