Here is what you should expect before you come to a St John of God Health Care hospital for your maternity care:
Step one: admission booking forms
You or your obstetrician will submit the completed admission booking forms, either digital or paper-based, to our hospital to help us prepare for your upcoming stay. This process is done when you are between 10 and 12 weeks’ pregnant.
Step two: we will get in touch
The hospital will contact you via email to confirm we have received your booking documents. You may also book your pre-admission appointment (more on that below).
Step three: book your parent education classes
Your next step is to book your antenatal parent education classes. These classes are hosted by experienced midwives and provide information about pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and early parenting. The classes are very popular so book early.
Or attend a maternity ward tour
If you are not enrolled in a parent education package we recommend you book a free maternity tour. These tours give you a chance to see our facilities and meet some of the midwives who provide exceptional maternity care for you and your baby throughout pregnancy, birth and the early stages of parenthood.
Step four: pre-admission
In your third trimester, we offer a pre-admission phone call to answer any questions you may have about your care at our hospital. We will also confirm that all your booking information is still current.
Step five: get vaccinated
For your baby’s wellbeing, we recommend your partner, family and friends who will spend time with your newborn have a whooping cough vaccination if it has been more than five years since their last vaccination.
Is there anything else?
Each time you visit our maternity ward, including on the day you give birth, please bring your:
- Obstetric card
- Medicare card
- Private health fund membership card
- Safety Net Concession Card or DVA Gold Card (if applicable)
- Current medications (in original packaging).
