Planning for your return home is an important part of your care. It involves discussion with your family and support people to ensure you are fully prepared when you go home and that your needs are anticipated. When being discharged from our hospital remember to organise for someone to take you home as you should not drive for a at least 24 hours after an anaesthetic.

“I ‘fell’ into cardiac related nursing 25 years ago, and have always loved the mix of medical and surgical management techniques used to improve the lives of people with heart disorders. I enjoy working in the Coronary Care Unit and being part of a team that provides an education and support service for patients (and their families) undergoing various open heart operations – answering their questions and talking them through what to expect during their time in hospital and recovery at home. I love sharing my experience with patients and other staff too.” - Rob Lampard, Clinical Nurse, Coronary Care Unit
