Assoc Professor Robert Love is a very experienced full time specialist plastic surgeon, having obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2001. His main interests are in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery of the breast and body, hand and face, focusing on restorative, functional and cosmetic outcomes. He enjoys both private and public practice where among other things he is involved in training the next generation of plastic surgeons.
Having graduated with honours in 1991, from the University of Melbourne School of Medicine, Assoc Prof Love completed his residency and plastic surgery training at teaching hospitals both in Victoria and WA. During this time he joined the medical faculties of the University of Melbourne and Stanford University, California in both places as a lecturer in anatomy. He completed his advanced surgical training in plastic and reconstructive surgery, hand and microsurgery in Melbourne and Perth, in 2001, securing the coveted Leibinger Travelling Fellowship prize twice in four years, a feat never previously achieved, and a Royal Australian College of Surgeons prize for research.
Since, he has completed a Fellowship in Cleft Lip and Craniofacial Surgery at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children prior to being granted consultant positions at the Pulvertaft Hand Surgery Unit, Derbyshire, United Kingdom and Cork University Hospital, Republic of Ireland. He is a past Chairman of the West Australian regional committee of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, is the immediate past Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery, at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth and past President of the West Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons.
He has been involved in the selection and training of the next generation of Reconstructive Plastic and Hand surgeons, has performed overseas foreign aid trips in reconstructive surgery to third world countries including Tonga and Bangladesh and is on the assessment panel for International Medical Graduates, through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
He is a recipient of the coveted Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship for services to the community in reconstructive hand and plastic surgery, as well as a Special Services Award from the Royal Australian College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Australian and American Plastic Surgery Societies and the Australian, West Australian and British Hand Surgery Societies and the West Australian Melanoma Advisory Service.
He is a lecturer in anatomy, body contouring surgery and surgery of the hand. He teaches the final year medical students advanced suturing techniques and has recently been a guest speaker at BHP’s health, environment, community and safety awards night in Newman. He has been heavily involved with industry in developing new innovations in minor and major injury prevention. He is a reviewer for the Australian Journal of Plastic Surgery and the ANZ Journal of Surgery and thoroughly enjoys all aspects of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, its innovations and its teaching.
