Where we are
Dr Roger Tan was born in Malaysia and his family immigrated to Perth when he was a young child. He studied Medicine at the University of Western Australia and is dual qualified as an anaesthetist and pain management physician.
Dr Tan was the Director of the Acute Pain Services at Fremantle Hospital from 2011-2013. He was involved with the clinical service planning for Fiona Stanley Hospital and was the Director of Acute Pain Services at Fiona Stanley Hospital from 2013-2016. Dr Tan has left the public health system since 2018 and works solely in private practice. He also set up the inpatient Pain Services at St John of God Murdoch Hospital in 2012 after noticing a need for specialist pain management. He continues to work at St John of God Murdoch Hospital seeing patients in hospital and also in the outpatient clinic setting.
Dr Tan is committed to education and is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Western Australia. He is also actively involved with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and the Faculty of Pain Medicine. He is on the national executive committee for Acute Pain for the College of Anaesthetists and on the Faculty of Pain Medicine Western Australia Regional Committee.
Dr Tan sees both acute and chronic pain patients. He has special interests in spinal pain, persistent post-surgery pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, neuropathic pain, interventional pain procedures, ultrasound guided pain procedures and spinal cord stimulation.
