Patient-Centric Admissions Project training for person-centred care
A new training program has been developed to further enhance the experience of all visitors to St John of God hospitals.
Piloted with caregivers based on the St Luke and St Rose wards at SJG Murdoch Hospital, the “three C’s” aims to set a new benchmark for all interactions at SJOG hospitals.
Person-centred care focuses on the three themes of connection, communication and compassion - 'the three Cs'.
The Patient-Centric Admissions Project, which is part of the Procedural Areas Transformation Program, has now partnered with SJG Murdoch Hospital Consumer Liaison Officer Montanique O'SullivanPatient to deliver this training to all caregivers in the Admissions and Pre-admissions areas.
Training sessions are being held this month, during which caregivers will reflect on the values and benefits of person-centred care and its application in both face-to-face and telephone interactions.
Sessions have been well received so far, with evaluation results indicating 100 per cent of attendees feel more confident to enact person-centred care in their day-to-day work.
The training sessions will be followed up with a series of role-based training scenarios at the end of this month, with a group of previous patients volunteering to be actors.
The success of person-centred care training will be measured via a patient satisfaction survey to be completed by patients prior to their admission, following which, the “three Cs” will be rolled out to other departments throughout the hospital.
