Where we are
Dr Pountney completed her graduate medical degree at the University of Notre Dame in Fremantle. She fell in love with obstetrics and gynaecology in medical school during her year at the Rural Clinical School in Albany.
As a junior doctor she worked at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Hedland Headland Health Campus, gaining experience in a variety of medical and surgical specialties. She commenced her obstetrics and gynaecology training at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) before moving to Brisbane, Queensland where she completed her final three years of training between the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) and the Mater Mothers’ Hospital (MMH). In her final year of training as the Senior Registrar at MMH she gained additional skills and experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery, persistent pelvic pain and paediatric and adolescent gynaecology. Upon attainment of her FRANZCOG qualification, Alana commenced as a Staff Specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology at RBWH, gaining further experience in high-risk tertiary obstetrics.
Alana has recently moved back to Perth with her husband and five young children for the lifestyle and beach they love. She is passionate about woman-centred care and understands the importance of an holistic and collaborative approach. Having extensive tertiary experience, she is well-equipped to manage complex pregnancies and has a passion for high-risk obstetrics.
She is able to deliver babies at St John of God Subiaco Hospital and KEMH. Alana offers a range of surgical and non-surgical gynaecological services, having expertise in minimally invasive (laparoscopic and hysteroscopic) surgery, management of cervical abnormalities (colposcopy), abnormal and dysfunctional uterine bleeding, family planning and pelvic pain. Dr Pountney also holds a part-time position as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at KEMH.
