Pohan completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 2007. He then underwent his basic physician training at the Austin and Northern Hospitals, and his clinical and laboratory haematology training at Alfred Health, Monash Medical Centre, and the Northern Hospital. 

As a haematologist, Pohan is proficient in managing patients with blood cancers and general blood disorders (e.g. patients with blood clot and low blood counts); with special interests in lymphoma and multiple myeloma.

At St John of God Ballarat Hospital and Ballarat Cancer Care and Haematology, Pohan consults and treats patients from Ballarat, Grampians and Wimmera regions. He also works as a clinical haematologist at Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre. He regularly presents at educational meetings for local doctors in the region, as well as patients' forums such as Leukemia Foundation Meetings.

Pohan and his wife moved to Ballarat in 2016 and have enjoyed the tree change since. In his spare time, Pohan enjoys watching movies and exploring different culinary experiences.
