Dr Chung is an Interventional Cardiologist with an interest in acute coronary syndrome, structural heart disease including transcatheter valvular interventions and pulmonary hypertension due to left heart disease.

He graduated with honours with his research in acute coronary syndrome from the University of Notre Dame Fremantle in 2011. His work was published in Heart, Lung and Circulation, The Journal of American College of Cardiology and Emergency Medicine Australasia. He presented his work in oral presentations at The American College of Cardiology in Chicago and The Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) in Brisbane in 2012. 

He completed his cardiology training in Western Australia in 2019 working at the major academic tertiary hospitals; Sir Charles Gairdner, Royal Perth and Fiona Stanley Hospital. During this period, he completed a Master of Philosophy higher degree by research in pulmonary hypertension due to left heart disease working with the largest population based echocardiographic database in the world – The National Echo Database of Australia (NEDA). He is the primary author in a review article: Pulmonary Hypertension due to left heart disease: Are we seeing the full picture? published in Heart, Lung and Circulation in March 2018. He has presented abstracts of his research at the Pulmonary Hypertension Society of Australasia and New Zealand ASM in 2016 and 2017, The Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand ASM in 2016 and 2017 and The European Society of Cardiology ASM in Barcelona 2017 and Munich in 2018. He was awarded a GlaxoSmithKline grant for the best oral abstract at the Pulmonary Hypertension Society of Australia and New Zealand ASM in Sydney 2017. 

He also strives to teach junior doctors and has completed a graduate certificate in Health Professional Education at the University of Notre Dame in 2017.

In 2020 he was a locum cardiologist in the Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Service at Fiona Stanley Hospital. 

He then undertook a two-year clinical/research fellowship in coronary intervention and structural heart disease at The University of Ottawa Heart Institute in Canada where he gained advanced skills and knowledge in coronary interventions, transcatheter aortic valve implantation, edge to edge mitral valve repair using Mitraclip, ASD/PFO closure, left atrial appendage closure and mitral valvuloplasty.
