Dr André Chong, a graduate of the University of Melbourne, is a gastroenterologist and interventional endoscopist.
Upon finishing gastroenterology training, he completed a Fellowship in Interventional Endoscopy in Melbourne and was awarded a research grant from the highly competitive NHMRC process. The research published culminated in an MD degree, for studies in the evidence-based use of endoscopic ultrasound and capsule endoscopy. This was followed by two further post-doctoral therapeutic endoscopy fellowships in recognised centres of excellence, including one year in the USA, with Dr Peter Cotton and Dr Robert Hawes and with Dr Nageshwara Reddy at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology.
Dr Chong has peer-reviewed publications in interventional endoscopy, has been an international reviewer for the premier endoscopy journal, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (GIE) and has been training other specialists in therapeutic endoscopy since 2005.
He has also had leadership roles, including Clinical Lead of the WA Digestive Health Network, Acting Head of Department and Clinical Lead of Interventional Endoscopy at Fiona Stanley Hospital. Dr Chong is actively involved in ongoing collaborative research in the sub-speciality of Interventional/Therapeutic Endoscopy.
At St John of God Murdoch Hospital, Dr Chong continues to provide a caring and evidence-based service in ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), interventional endoscopy, capsule endoscopy, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and oesophageal/enteral/colonic stenting and dilatation.
