You’ve Googled all about having a baby and bought the car seat, stroller and baby clothing - just in case – but still unsure if you book into a parenting course? Childbirth Educator, Lesley Pascuzzi, provides insight into the value of attending one of our parenting courses, for those booked to have a baby at St John of God Midland Public Hospital.
Parenting and birth courses are free for maternity patients booked to give birth at the hospital.
Courses cover healthy birth practices, including tips and advice for managing labour, risks and benefits of alternative pain relief options, information on induction of labour and managing active birth.
Due to COVID restrictions we are currently only offer virtual courses - with face to face courses on hold.
Our parent education course provide a range of information to help you feel more prepared and knowledgeable about your upcoming birth.
While others don’t mean to, they can make you more anxious about your pregnancy by telling you negative stories about labour and the birth process.
However, your body is an amazing factory. It will prepare birth hormones to enable your labour to begin and release endorphins to reduce your experience of pain.
In the course we will discuss ways to find comfort in labour alongside hospital-based pain relief options. The knowledge can help you discover a path through labour and birth, where you feel in control and confident.
The course provides responses to commonly raised questions, such as:
- How painful is labour
- How long does labour take?
- When should I come to hospital?
- What do I do if my waters break?
- I have a phobia of needles, what other pain relief options do I have that don’t involve needles?
- How can I be a great support person to my partner in labour?
- I want to be listened to
- I want to avoid tearing, how do I do that?
Parenting courses give you the knowledge and confidence to prepare for your upcoming birth. They cover the mostly commonly asked questions – and more – to help minimise anxieties you may have about the labour process.
