After nearly 30 years of working as an enrolled nurse in paediatrics, I was encouraged by the support of my family, colleagues and management to undertake further study to become a registered nurse.
I have always wanted to be a registered nurse, but was unable to undertake further study due to family commitments.
With a niece, who was about to enrol in the course, encouraging me to undertake a registered nurse conversion course, I decided the time was right to further my career.
I was greatly encourage by the support and assistance by both management and my colleagues on the children’s ward at St John of God Midland Public Hospital while I undertook my studies.
It was so fantastic to have the full support of everyone around me and they gave me the courage to upskill.
It is like a dream come true to become a registered nurse and so fantastic that after I graduated I was successful in securing a role as a registered nurse on the children’s ward.
I have since been promoted to ward co-ordinator and I just love working in that role. I enjoy working with children and find it very rewarding.
I now plan to further study in the field of paediatrics, particularly in the area of neonates.
