NAIDOC Week is celebrated not just in our Aboriginal communities but is increasingly being held across agencies, community organisations, local governments, organisations, schools and sporting groups.
This year’s theme "because of her we can", celebrates the essential role that women have played and continue to play as active and significant role models at community, local, state and national levels.
I encourage you to see what is happening in your local area and attend these events, so that you can immerse yourself in the culture and participate in the festivities they have to offer.
My inspirational mum
In line with this year's theme, I would like to introduce you to my mum, who continues to inspire me each and every day.
At the ripe old age of 70, my mum is still working full time in the mental health and disability sector.
Her work ethic and strength continue to amaze me, and to watch and learn from her is such a privilege that I treasure.
She has a wealth of knowledge and wisdom that is transmitted to me in a way that enables me to do the work that I do. I thank you mum.
It’s “because of her I can”.
