New mums who have given birth at St John of God Murdoch Hospital can attend the monthly social group where they can not only meet other parents but also speak to a dedicated midwife or lactation consultant from the hospital’s St Mary ward and staff from Raphael Services.
Midwife Vicki Hallion said the group was primarily designed to help new mums socialise and get ideas and tips from other parents.
“We are also on hand to provide expert advice, particularly if you are having trouble with feeding or getting your newborn to sleep,” she said.
“We also know that motherhood is time of great emotional change, so our Raphael Services staff are available to offer perinatal mental health advice and connection to other emotional support services.”
Mums are encouraged to bring a plate of food to share.
The group meets each month on a Monday from 2.00pm to 4.00pm at the Melville Recreation Centre.
