Treatment decisions

Any decisions about your treatment are made in close partnership with you and your family, with support from your doctors, nurses and allied health care team.

We work with you in the context of the Catholic Health Australia Code of Ethical Standards for Catholic Health and Aged Care Services in Australia and relevant legislation.

Treatment decisions in Victoria

The Victorian Government recognises that people have the right to make – and have respected – certain decisions regarding their future medical treatment.  To this end, it has established a legal framework for people considering refusing, restricting or defining their future treatment preferences.

This framework incorporates a Refusal of Treatment Certificate (RTC).

This document outlines your wishes about future medical treatment in case a current known condition leaves you unable to communicate.  It is not compulsory for you to have a RTC and many of our patients do not feel they need one.  If you wish to know more, please speak to your doctor of visit the Victorian Health Department website.

If you have an RTC or an Enduring Power of Attorney (medical treatment), please discuss this with your doctor and provide copies of the documentation to us.

Treatment decisions in Western Australia

The Western Australian Government recognises that adults have the right to make – and have respected – certain decisions regarding their future medical treatment.  To this end, it has established a legal framework for people considering refusing, restricting or defining their future treatment preferences.  This framework incorporates Advance Health Directives (AHD).

An AHD is a document outlining your wishes about medical treatments in case an illness or accident leaves you unable to communicate. It is not compulsory to have such a document, and may of our patients feel they do not need one. If you wish to know more about an AHD, please speak to your doctor or visit the WA Department of Health website.

If you have an AHD or Enduring Power of Guardianship, please discuss it with your doctor and provide copies of the documentation to us.
