Walk-in mental health centres open every day over holiday period

While the holidays can be filled with fun and frivolity, for those experiencing family discord, isolation or mental health challenges they can sometimes be fraught, lonely and distressing.

Armadale and Midland Head to Health adult mental health centres in Perth are open from 10.00am to 8.00pm every day of the year - including all public holidays and weekends over the Christmas and New Year period - for people experiencing mental health and emotional issues.

Operated by St John of God Health Care on behalf of the Australian Government, the centres are welcoming and safe community-based walk-in services. No referral, Medicare card or appointment is needed to access them. All services are provided at no cost and are open from 10.00am to 8.00pm.

The centres have been designed as a friendly, calm environment with a range of mental health professionals on hand to provide advice and support, along with assessment and short-to-medium-term treatment if needed.

Head to Health Manager Ruth Lawrence said the centres fill a gap at a time of year when many normal mental health supports might not be available.

“The time leading up to and throughout Christmas and New Year can sometimes be really stressful,” she said.

“At the same time, many mental health providers are closed or have reduced hours.

“We are happy to be here providing free support every single day throughout the holidays, so people can get the mental health and emotional support they need, when they need it.

“Our staff are ready and waiting to have a chat – no appointment or referral needed.”

Midland Head to Health is located at 23 Old Great Northern Highway, Midland.

Armadale Head to Health is located at 65A Church Avenue, Armadale.
