Empowering young First Nations leaders at St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals

Recently, we welcomed Kasey, a graduate intern from Careers Trackers who is pursuing a Bachelor of Criminology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Kasey joined our Aboriginal Health Team as an Allied Health Assistant, eager to gain valuable skills and experience that will help her secure future employment opportunities.

At our hospital, Kasey actively engages in learning, community outreach, and meaningful patient interactions.

"My Careers Trackers advisor has been instrumental in aligning internships with my career goals. At St John of God, I'm learning how to navigate the healthcare system and advocate effectively for Indigenous patients, thanks to exposure to services like Derbarl Yerrigan and Wungening." Kasey said.

With many opportunities on the horizon, Kasey is looking forward to her career development progression, feeling grateful that our hospital has been the stepping stone towards her bright career future goals.

Looking ahead, Kasey is passionate about the legal system and aims to advocate for disadvantaged individuals, particularly in rehabilitation and prison reform. She hopes to provide personalised support to those reintegrating into society after challenging circumstances.

Reflecting on her journey, Kasey draws inspiration from her grandmother, an Aboriginal woman who dedicated her career to public service.

"My grandmother's legacy motivates me. I aspire to leave a similar positive impact on my community and future generations," she shares warmly.

Kasey's internship at St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals has provided her with hands-on experience in a hospital setting, where she has learned to remain calm under pressure and assist in challenging situations. Her journey underpins the hospital's commitment to nurturing young Indigenous talent and fostering career development.
