International Nurses Day
10 May 2024
May is a big month for celebrating our nurses and midwives.
On May 5, we celebrated International Day of the Midwife and today we take the opportunity to recognise and celebrate our nurses on International Nurses Day, which coincides with the Florence Nightingale’s birth date.
Nurses and midwives make up more than 50 per cent of our workforce and the theme of this year’s International Nurses Day “Our Nurses. Our Future.” resonates. The theme, determined by the International Council of Nurses, sets out the future of nursing in order to address the global health challenges and improve global health for all.
International Nurses Day is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the work and contributions of nurses in caring for our patients and to our organisation, and the health care system more broadly.
Today is our chance to celebrate the contributions made by the nursing profession.
We are very proud of our nurses. They play vital roles wherever they work, at the bedside, in theatres, in the community, improving clinical care, and in leadership roles.
Their commitment to our patients and their valuable contribution to improving people’s lives is a testament to the ongoing kindness and compassion our nurses show our patients throughout their health care journey, delivering care to all without discrimination.
We ask you to join us in thanking all of our nurses for their continuous delivery of amazing care.
