After welcoming more than 11,000 babies across our hospitals in 2023, we can reveal that Oliver has again prevailed as the top boys’ name.
With many names re-appearing from the 2022 list, there was one boys’ name that made its grand entrance into our top 10.
Here are the St John of God Health Care top 10 boys’ names for 2023
1. Oliver
(Meaning olive tree; peace.)
Holding the title for four years running, this traditional name continues to be a favourite amongst new parents.
2. Noah
(Meaning peaceful.)
Noah returns after taking a break from the top 10 in 2022.
3. Henry
(Meaning house ruler.)
So close to ruling the countdown, Henry has jumped another two spots in 2023.
4. Oscar
(Meaning God spear; deer-lover; champion warrior.)
Another one that took a break in 2022 but has steamed back into the top 10.
5. Jack
(Meaning God is gracious; supplanter; holder of the heel.)
Four years in a row in the top 10 but down two spots from 2022.
6. James
(Meaning supplanter; holder of the heel.)
This traditional favourite is going places. Up four spots from 2022.
7. William
(Meaning resolute protector; will, desire; helmet, protection.)
Continues to protect his spot in the top 10 although has dropped one place from 2022.
8. George
(Meaning farmer; earthworker.)
Out of the top 10 in 2022, George works his way back to the most popular list.
9. Lucas
(Meaning bringer of light.)
This little one shines his light for the first time on our list.
10. Leo
(Meaning lion.)
Leo just roars into the top 10 in 2023…dropping eight places from 2022.
