Platform Applications Support Manager Chris Warren began working for St John of God Health Care 35 years ago as an enrolled nurse before moving into our Digital Information and Technology team, where she has been since.

What is your role and where do you work?

I am the Platform Applications Support Manager at St John of God Health Care Group Services.

Talk us through your career journey with us.

I started off at St John of God Health Care as an enrolled nurse at St John of God Subiaco Hospital. I transitioned across to the Digital Information and Technology department because they were looking for a clinical person with a bit of IT knowledge, which was a secondment that then turned into a permanent role. I’ve been with St John of God Health Care for 35 years.

What do you love about working with us?

I love the culture, it seems very different. I haven’t worked at a lot of places because I’ve been here for such a long time but the culture, it seems a bit more like a family – everyone cares for everyone.

What makes us different?

The culture and the Vision based on the Mission and Values makes working at St John of God Health Care different to any other place.

What projects have you loved working on the most and why?

I started off on our Murdoch hospital’s rostering project – that was my first introduction to IT. Since then, I’ve worked on multiple projects including the Y2K bug project and GST introduction, to re-designs and upgrades of the St John of God Health Care internet and intranet sites.

I now work primarily in the SharePoint platform support area, which is great as the work is so varied and constantly evolving.

Do you work from home or an office?

I work flexible – sometimes in the office but I do tend to work quite a bit from home. I try to mix it up a bit so I get the interaction with people at work but also having the flexibility of being able to work at home.

What do you love about working from home?

Being able to spend time with my animals is probably the best bit, but also being able to work from home has made life a little bit easier. It shows that St John of God Health Care is caring for our wellbeing and our mental health as well. Having the work/life balance makes it really good.

Why should other people in digital information and technology come work with us?

It’s a great place to work. Given that I’ve been here for so long is a good indication. The people are friendly and the culture of the organisation is great.
