Melanie joined the team in Timor-Leste in 2016 as a Clinical Midwife Consultant and has been Acting Country Manager since the end of March 2019.
“I’m excited to take on the position to continue to help St John of God Health Care deliver outstanding care, support and education across the entire breadth of the Nursing Development Program, in order to continue to build Timor-Leste’s healthcare capabilities,” Melanie said.
During her time in Timor-Leste, Melanie has built strong relationships within Dili’s national hospital - Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares - and supported Timorese midwives to implement a range of successful capacity-building initiatives that have led to improved outcomes for women and their newborn babies.
Making the announcement, St John of God Social Outreach’s Director of International Health Anthea Ramos said Melanie was ideally suited to take on the role due to her diverse skillset and leadership qualities.
“Melanie brings strong operational and clinical management skills, as well as leadership and empathy to the role of Country Manager,” she said.
Melanie has been a Registered Midwife for ten years and has worked in five different countries, three of those, being developing countries. She has degrees in Midwifery and Neuropsychology, and is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
