Across cultures, light carries special significance and features in many religions and celebrations. It is often a symbol of hope.

The Aboriginal Dreamtime describes how the land received light for the first time and the life that came from it.

Buddhism speaks of it in the concept of enlightenment.

In modern times, people often refer to it in the form of light at the end of the tunnel.

In the Judeo-Christian faiths, it features in the book of Genesis in the image of God separating light from darkness.

Gospel writer John portrays God as light and goes further to proclaim Jesus as the light of the world. In Ephesians Paul expands upon this encouraging all people to live as children of light.

Our Christmas message this year “Today a great light has come upon the earth” announces the birth of Jesus.

As caregivers at St John of God Health Care, we continue to illuminate his healing ministry bringing to those in our care the hope that was born on the first Christmas.

We wish everyone spending Christmas with us as a patient, visitor or caregiver a very Merry Christmas.
