The Christian story of Christmas tells how a very pregnant Mary set out on a journey with Joseph and arriving in Bethlehem found there was no room. Unsure and vulnerable they must have wondered what was ahead of them.
Fortunately, there was one among the people who offered them hospitality and there Mary gave birth to Jesus.
The spirit of hospitality, of welcome and acceptance is evidenced every day in our hospitals as we welcome and care for people whether that be at reception, admission, on wards and in theatre as we live our Mission to offer hospitality, hope and healing.
Being in hospital in the lead up to Christmas can truly reflect the focus of Advent as a time of waiting and preparing knowing that the gifts of hope, peace, joy and love are offered to us through the people we encounter.
