St John of God Health Care’s (SJGHC) commitment to promoting the health benefits of the arts was recently reinforced at the launch of the 2018 Mandorla Art Award.

SJGHC is a major sponsor of the Christian art award for 2018 providing a cash prize for the winning artist to continue their artistic dreams and showcasing the winning work throughout the organisation.

SJGHC Chief Executive Officer Dr Michael Stanford said the organisation’s commitment to supporting the arts was based on the Mission to heal.

“We know through research and our experience that arts through participation, expression and enjoyment leads to improvements in overall wellbeing,” he said.

“Highlighting some of the artworks from the Mandorla Art Award in our art collections at our hospitals and corporate offices is a key part of our sponsorship. We know art in all its form enhances the holistic health, healing and wellbeing of individuals in a health care setting – be they patients, visitors, our own people – and the broader community.”

The Mandorla Art Award is now open for submissions, with artists asked to reflect on the theme taken from Revelations 21:1-2:

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.”
