The 2.5-year partnership covers St John of God Health Care’s network of 16 hospitals across WA, NSW and VIC, a third of which operate in regional locations. The two organisations will also work hand-in-hand to enable access to new and innovative models of care such as hospital in the home and cardiac rehabilitation.

Bupa Health Insurance Managing Director Kate Williams said Bupa’s ongoing collaboration with St John of God Health Care is a fantastic example of hospitals and insurers coming together to drive more patient-centred care while supporting the viability of private hospitals, particularly in regional areas.

“We know Australians want certainty and more choice about where and when they receive their care.” Kate Williams, Managing Director Health Insurance, Bupa Australia.

“Through our renewed partnership with St John of God Health Care, we’re actively investing in the future of healthcare more than just funding treatment. This means Australians can receive optimal and affordable care both inside and outside of hospital settings,” Ms Williams said.

“We know that Australia’s private health sector is going through a period of transition, and we all have a role to play to assure its future. We look forward to working with St John of God and our other hospital partners to modernise our health system and position it to meet the future needs of our shared patients.”

St John of God Health Care Group CEO Bryan Pyne said supporting the ongoing viability of the private health care sector and meeting the evolving needs of patients were at the centre of this new agreement.

“As a not-for-profit healthcare provider with a 130-year legacy, we are dedicated to building and maintaining strong partnerships that ensure every community we serve has access to high-quality, compassionate, and patient-centred care,” said Mr Pyne.

“Our ongoing partnership with Bupa will help us continue to meet the evolving healthcare needs of our patients while providing expanded treatment options, especially to those in regional communities.

“Enhanced access to cutting-edge robotic technology is just one example of the many healthcare improvements our partnership with Bupa will bring to regional areas.”

This agreement follows recent deals struck with hospital operators around Australia in recent times including Healthscope, Healthe Care, Mater and St Vincents. Bupa’s network includes most private hospitals and day surgeries across the country.
