Supporting the next generation of junior doctors

Applications for resident medical officer (RMO) positions are now open, giving junior doctors the choice to work at the organisation’s Midland, Mt Lawley, Subiaco and Murdoch hospitals.

St John of God Health Care Group Chief Executive Officer Dr Shane Kelly said our RMO positions give junior doctors access to a broad range of teaching, training and clinical experiences.

“Our role as teaching hospitals for junior doctors has become more important than ever before. The response to COVID-19 has demonstrated how essential it is that our health system is integrated and our medical professionals have a broad range of knowledge, experience and understanding so together we can provide our communities with access to the very best health care possible,” he said.

“This is true not only in times of crisis, but in our everyday lives.

“Offering teaching and support to guide the next generation of doctors, who provide the frontline care and will ultimately be our medical and surgical leaders of the future, is a key part of our role in contributing to developing a high skilled medical workforce into the future.

“We place great focus on providing junior doctor programs that are tailored to the needs and preferences of individuals, as well as a positive and supportive environment.

RMO positions available across the four hospitals cover a variety of clinical experiences including:

• general medicine

• mental health

• paediatrics
• palliative care
• respiratory medicine
• infectious diseases and gastroenterology
• intensive care medicine
• cardiology and coronary care
• emergency medicine
• obstetrics, gynaecology and gynaecology oncology
• orthopaedics
• general surgery
• vascular surgery
• urology
• colorectal surgery
• Plastics & ENT surgery
• Upper GI surgery

Junior doctors can apply to RMO positions through two routes, depending on their preferred destinations:
