Eva Skira awarded Member of the Order of Australia

Eva Skira, Chair of Trustees for St John of God Health Care, has been awarded a Member of the Order of Australia ‘for significant service to business in Western Australia through a range of industry and advisory roles.’

The award was announced in the Australia Day 2019 Honours List on 26 January.

Eva said she was honoured to accept the Award.

“I felt so honoured and humbled to be recognised for the roles I have played in business across the State and beyond,” she said.

“It was personally a very uplifting moment.”

St John of God Health Care Board Chair Hon Kerry Sanderson AC congratulated Eva on the award.

“Eva has worked across a wide range of business, government, education and not-for-profit organisations, serving all organisations with dedication, purpose and commitment to the benefit of our State,” she said.

“She is a most worthy recipient of an Order of Australia honour.”

Ms Skira’s career and contribution across the business sector spans decades, including more than 20 years’ as a non-executive director across a variety of organisations.

This year, she marks 20 years of service to St John of God Health Care having commenced as a Board Member in 1999, before becoming a Trustee in 2012 and subsequently Chair of Trustees in 2014.

During this time, St John of God Health Care has grown from the 80th largest private company in Australia to the 20th (ranked by revenue), as well as becoming Australia’s largest Catholic not-for-profit private hospital group.

Eva said her time with St John of God Health Care was a highlight of her career.

“The purpose and Mission of St John of God Health Care resonates with me, and throughout my career I have loved working with organisations with strong purpose and values which goes beyond financial statements,” she said.

“It has been a privilege to work with the organisation, which has given me the opportunity to work in healthcare and with some fantastic people both past and present.”

Ms Skira’s experience includes executive roles in the banking and financial sector, including Commonwealth Bank and Barclays de Zoete Wedd.

She has also served on the boards of a range of organisations which are prominent in Western Australia including the Water Corporation, MDA National, Westscheme and Murdoch University.

Additionally, she has chaired a number of audit, compliance and risk committees.

Along with her current appointment as Chair of Trustees of St John of God Health Care, she is also a current director at Macmahon, Western Power, the WA Parks Foundation and the Western Australia Cricket Association.
