St John of God Richmond Hospital supports farmers

With 100% of NSW being declared in drought and farmers in rural Australia struggling with spiralling costs and worsening conditions, caregivers and patients from St John of God Richmond Hospital banded together to raise over $575 with a “Fiver for a Farmer” fundraiser.

Allied Health caregiver Natasha heard 10 year old Jack Berne interviewed on the radio about his idea of 'A Fiver for a Farmer' fundraiser.

“If we can raise some money, I think we can all feel better about helping our mates on the farms,” Natasha said.

From there the seed was planted and the events were organised.

A loud shirt day was held on Monday 13 August 2018 with the Allied Health team dressing up as farmers on the Wednesday.

Money raised goes to two charity organisations:

  • Rural Aid - a central point of focus to provide assistance and relief for farmers in distress and poverty
  • Drought Angels - a unique service offering drought relief through support for rural families in need. A small charity run by big hearts.
