This year, we are celebrating the milestone by following their 10,000th baby during their first days in hospital.

Baby Freya born to parents Latesha and John Jeffery had their first days in hospital captured on video, from their first cuddle with mum and dad to their first bath right up until our midwives said farewell as the new family left the hospital.

St John of God Health Care Group Director of Nursing Cynthia Dowell said following baby Freya provided a great insight for all parents to be who were considering or had chosen to give birth at our hospitals.

“The first days after birth are incredibly special for mums and dads, but it can also be an anxious time particularly for first time mothers,” she said.

“Being able to capture our 10,000th baby’s journey on video and sharing that with all of our mothers to be will not only help them prepare for their upcoming birth but also for their stay in hospital.

“We thank parents Latesha and John for allowing us to share these special moments with us and our community of mothers.”

This year as a part of our celebrations, babies born at one of our 11 maternity wards were showered with gifts from St John of God Health Care.

Cynthia said St John of God Health Care was on target to welcome more than 12,000 babies by the end of the year, making the organisation one of the leading maternity hospital providers in Australia.

“Our maternity services, which use the latest technology and research to provide the best patient experience possible, care for mothers and their families from pregnancy to birth and into early parenting,” she said.

“Through our St John of God Raphael Services we also provide free mental health care for families from conception until the child is fours old, which is very important as we know pregnancy and early parenting can be a time of big emotional changes for mothers and fathers alike.”
