The initiative offers young female musicians the opportunity to develop their interest in jazz and gain skills, experience and confidence to help them launch their career.

In the program, run over 10 weeks, participants work with female industry professionals from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts and the West Australian Jazz orchestra, while also receiving guidance from guest musicians representing the Sydney Improvised Music Association.

“We are delighted to be involved in the program and congratulate the 2017 alumni,” St John of God Health Care Group Chief Executive Officer Dr Michael Stanford said.

“Music plays such a vital role in shaping our lives whether that is through a career or simply as enjoyment.

“As a part of our commitment to arts and health, it is a privilege to be able to help these women get a foot in the door in their industry while also enabling more people to enjoy their talent.”

On Sunday 9 July 2017, the 12 graduates performed at The Ellington Jazz Club in Perth, debuting two new ensembles.
