In accordance with our emergency contingency plans, staff quickly notified the emergency services who responded immediately and extinguished a small fire.

While we acknowledge the inconvenience to our patients, no one suffered any harm as a result of the fire. No damage was done to the building.

As a precautionary measure, some patients from the main building were temporarily evacuated to the hospital grounds for a short period of time before being returned to the wards.

Services were unaffected and the hospital resumed normal operations within an hour of the alarm being raised.

Planned services for Monday will proceed as usual.

There is no connection with the previous small fire that occurred in November 2016.

St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital has been undergoing a significant redevelopment over the past 18 months of around $20 million.

The hospital is well maintained and St John of God Health Care is continuing to invest in the upgrade of its facilities and services.
