Dr Mark Whiting is an ophthalmologist specialising in the medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the front of the eye including: corneal transplant, cataract and pterygium surgery, keratoconus and ocular surface disease. He also practices general ophthalmology treating glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease.
He graduated from Melbourne University in 1993 and was an intern at Geelong Hospital. He worked as a surgical resident at St Vincent’s and Royal Melbourne hospital before training in ophthalmology at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. From 2001 to 2203 he completed fellowships in diseases of the front of the eye, including cataract, corneal and pterygium surgery, in the United Kingdom at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, and Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
Mark works every Thursday as a Senior Staff Specialist on the Corneal Clinic at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. He has also worked in East Timor in Dili, Oecussi, Suai and Bacau, Nepal in Kathmandu and Dang, and Tonga in Nuku’Alofa and Vava’u.
He is actively involved in teaching medical students at Deakin University, ophthalmology registrars and optometry students and has been an Optics examiner for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology since 2007.
