Dr Roger Warne (FRACP) began training in Geriatric Medicine in 1976 at Royal Perth Hospital. His advanced training experience includes Geriatric Medicine, Long Term Care, Neurology Psychiatry, Rheumatology, and Intensive care.
At QEIIMC he instigated innovative integration of proximal femoral fracture (PFF). He transferred to Melbourne University, First Assistant, National Research Institute for Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine, became a WHO Fellow, completed thesis on the Epidemiology of Proximal Femoral Fracture within Australia (MMed (Melb)), and published a text “Manual of Geriatric Care’.
He returned to RPH in 1991 working as a Geriatric medicine physician with responsibility in acute care, subacute care and rehabilitation, and community care and residential care.Dr Warne’s interest in community program evaluation was supported by $1.6 million program grant for evaluation of community transitional care packages. He was the Australian Coordinator of Hypertension in the Very Elderly Trial. His current research interests are in the evaluation and management of elderly in residential care, epidemiology and the utility of measurement scales.
He currently works as a physician at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital, and a Regional Geriatrician at Inner City Aged Care Services. He believes that `the cloak of San Juan Di Dios’ extends beyond the inpatient management to the community and that `Meeting with the patient and their families every evening is important’.
