Dr Brent Thomas has clinical interests in adult and old age psychiatry in the public and Catholic health care systems for 30 years.
In addition to Australia, Dr Thomas gained qualifications in England and the USA. His roles included Clinical Director Blacktown/Mount Druitt Mental Health and many years as Director, Aged Care Psychiatry and Neurosciences Unit (Psychogeriatrician) with St Josephs’ Hospital, Auburn.
Dr Thomas has extensive teaching experience with both undergraduate and post graduate students and general practitioners’ training. He is a Supervisor with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and also practises privately at Ermington.
A “whole of person” approach is taken and Dr Thomas works closely with other specialists to address any medical conditions associated with the mental health problems being experienced. He prepares individual treatment programs in consultation with each patient and their medical team.
Dr Thomas’ areas of interest include anxiety, alcohol/substance abuse, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder and assisting older people with cognitive or behavioural problems.
He also has considerable experience working with patients who have Huntington Disease.
Dr Thomas works jointly with patients to identify and strengthen areas of mental health vulnerability and his treatment is directed toward improving the quality of general living, education and employment.
