Dr Ola Otaiku is a geriatrician consulting at St John of God Bunbury Hospital.
He specialises in managing and preventing a wide range of conditions that affect older adults including dementia, frailty, falls, osteoporosis and polypharmacy. He provides comprehensive geriatric assessments, develops personalised care plans and works with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes for his patients.
Known for his compassionate and patient-centred approach to care, Dr Otaiku understands the importance of maintaining his patients independence and quality of life while treating their health conditions. He takes the time to listen to his patients, understand their concerns and involve them in the decision-making process.
Dr Otaiku obtained his medical degree at the University of Ibadan in 1984 and then moved to England for his postgraduate studies. While there he obtained his Certificate of Completion of Training in General Medicine and Geriatrics. Since then, he has worked at hospitals across the UK and Australia, gaining years of experience in geriatric and rehabilitation medicine. Dr Otaiku is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a Fellow of Royal College of Physicians (UK).
Outside of work Dr Otaiku is a soccer and NRL fan and supports the Queensland Marrons and Chelsea Football Club. He enjoys travelling for international sporting events and regularly visits his family in Nigeria. He previously played chess at competition level, but now just plays for fun.
