Dr Andrew Nguyen is an infectious diseases physician based at St John of God Hospital Geraldton, a current research fellow with the WA Centre for Rural Health, a Fellow of the Australasian College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health.
Dr Nguyen completed his studies at the University of Queensland, the Australian National University and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine with qualifications in Science, Medicine, Tropical Medicine and Applied Epidemiology. He completed Infectious Diseases training in Far North Queensland, the Sunshine Coast and Westmead Hospital. He later obtained a diploma in medical microbiology with the Pacific Regional Infectious Diseases Association.
Dr Nguyen contributed to measles surveillance and elimination efforts with the World Health Organization in Laos, is a representative of the Zoonoses Special Interest Group of the Australasian Society of Infectious Diseases and an s100 prescriber for HIV and Hepatitis B.
He also holds academic positions with the University of Queensland and University of Western Australia and is the Australian editor-in-chief in infectious diseases for StatPearls.
Dr Nguyen is passionate about providing optimal care to rural, remote and vulnerable patient groups with expertise and interests in tropical and travel medicine, international health and zoonotic infections.
