Alastair Gliksman graduated in 1999 with a MBBCh from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand Johannesburg, South Africa.
He completed his internship and community service in Johannesburg and worked for a year in greater London area in the UK. He then accepted a training registrar position in general surgery for two years at Johannesburg General.
Alastair subsequently completed his specialist training in Ear, Nose and Throat, Head and Neck Surgery in Johannesburg and was awarded the Fellowship of the College of South African (FCS) in Otolaryngology in 2007. Alastair practiced at the Linksfield Park Clinic in Johannesburg developing a keen interest and expertise in salivary gland disease, head and neck surgery, sinus disease and functional rhinoplasty.
During this period, he completed a two-year fellowship in Head and Neck Cancer Surgery administered by the International Federation of Head and Neck Surgeons and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York. Additionally, he has been a visiting fellow at MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston, Texas, with the late Professor Stammberger in Graz, Austria for sinus surgery, with Professor Tom Wang in Portland Oregon for functional rhinoplasty and Professor Iro and Zenk in Erlangen Germany for salivary gland disease.
Alastair also has a broad interest in general adult and paediatric ENT disease.
After migrating to Australia in 2017, he worked in Victoria and New South Wales. In 2021, Alastair was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS) after successfully passing the required final RACS examinations in 2019.
