Merry Christmas from the CEO
Christmas provides most of us with the chance to slow down and to spend meaningful time with our family and friends, to reflect on the year that has past, and to share the Christmas spirit of caring and love with those around us.

For St John of God Health Care the yuletide season can be a busy time, with our caregivers providing care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year across our hospitals.
In support of this care, the St John of God Foundation has been very busy, and I wanted to share with you some of the significant work that, through your support, we have been able to continue.
In the past 12 months, we have realised some great achievements, including providing funding towards:
- our life changing Social Outreach programs
- cancer and cardiac services at our Bunbury and Berwick hospitals
- distributed almost $2 million to a broad spectrum of lifesaving research projects and programs across the group.
With Australia’s changing health environment and ageing population, demand for lifesaving healthcare continues to grow exponentially. As a result, we need to build capacity, refine best practices and boost proven programs to serve more people.
We already enjoy a high level of healthcare built upon years of effort by medical professionals researching the causes of, and potential treatments for disease. Their tireless efforts have made many once life-threatening diseases and conditions just a distant memory.
However, there is still plenty of work ahead of us. Today’s medical research promises to reduce the impact of our greatest health problems, including diabetes, cancers and heart disease. As science continues to unravel the molecular workings that underpin disease, we expect to see profound changes in the approach to treatments.
St John of God Health Care, a not-for-profit organisation, is a leader in the Australian health sector and by raising funds through the St John of God Foundation is able to contribute to world-class research projects and clinical trials which focus on providing the highest quality outcomes.
We support specialised clinical research studies in more than 25 key health areas. Our focus is on translational research projects that have the greatest potential to improve patient healthcare by transforming research into practice.
This lifesaving work is crucial and I thank you for your unwavering support over the past year, it has helped the Foundation to continue our work and to make a sustainable difference to the health and wellbeing of many people in our community.
