Cancer Patient

Our Foundation is a ‘not for profit’ registered charity that through the generous support of the South West community, provides funding to assist with research, social outreach and the development of cardiac and cancer services at St John of God Bunbury Hospital.

Last year St John of God Bunbury Hospital provided care to over 26,000 public and private patients, including critical cardiac care to over 1,000 people and oncology services to more than 4,000 patients. Some of these patients have shared their experience with us:

"Looking back over my six months of chemotherapy I feel that actually having the treatment administered was a much more positive experience that I would have thought possible. That is without a doubt due to the nurses who administered my fortnightly treatments at the Comprehensive Cancer Centre at St John of God Hospital in Bunbury.  Right from the start when I was terrified going in for my first time the nurses knew how to reassure me and made me feel that it was all going to be alright.  They also managed to do that whilst setting up everything and getting the treatment under way. This efficient but empathetic and friendly approach continued on for the entire six months. During that time they reassured me, educated me, commiserated with me and laughed with me.  In fact there was a lot more laughing involved during those treatment sessions than I could ever have imagined. They were all so friendly and approachable and always made the effort to drop by and say hello even though they were always busy with so many patients. Whilst I don't miss the chemotherapy or it's side effects I do miss those smiling happy faces and I am very grateful for each and every one of them."

“I would like to thank you all for your kindness and warm hearted welcome every time Debbie and I came for her treatment. Even though it was an emotional time coming, you made her feel relaxed with your humour and thoughtfulness. I can’t thank you all enough.” ~ Charlie

“Thank you all so much for taking great care of my Amy and for helping to make her journey a bit more bearable with your smiling faces!” ~ Noelene

“It’s a tough gig but your bubbly smiles always make it easier. You always make me feel cared for and in safe hands. Thank you for helping me get better.” ~ Amy

“Thank you so much for being friendly, caring and supporting and all in a professional manner. With all of the above, you have made my six Chemo sessions so much less daunting. Keep up the good work although it must be hard for you all. It has been much appreciated by my husband Terry and I.” ~ Gillian
