Supporting more people than ever before

St John of God Foundation assists in the delivery of services provided by St John of God Social Outreach by way of donations. The service builds capacity and supports the physical, mental and emotional wellness of those who lives we touch.

St John of God Social Outreach has released its end of year results for 2017, which show the organisation has reached out to, and supported more vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals and communities than ever before.

The consolidation of all outreach services into the Social Outreach division earlier this year has meant that for the first time the organisation can report the depth and breadth of services.

Social Outreach is made up of 209 caregivers who this past year provided care and support to more than 3,800 clients.

In 2017, the various accommodation services provided almost 40,000 bed nights to adults and young people, and the community-based mental health services provided 32,931 counselling sessions.

St John of God Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Nick Harvey says that these services are crucial in targeting areas of unmet needs in the community.

“We are proud to say that our generous donors help to contribute to the delivery of critical outreach services, and the impact can be seen through staggering numbers".

  • support and accommodation provided to 166 young people who would otherwise have been homeless through our Horizon House program (Bunbury, Geraldton, Bendigo, Geelong, Warrnambool)
  • perinatal mental health care provided to 1,912 new parents through our Raphael Services (Hawkesbury, Richmond, Ballarat, Bendigo, Berwick, Geelong, Subiaco, Midland, Murdoch)
  • 46 people we provided with enduring mental health issues with safe and stable accommodation through our Casa Venegas service (Burwood)
  • support provided to 1,612 clients including 16,289 counselling sessions through our community mental health services (Ballarat, Warrnambool, Murdoch)

“We hope to continue to contribute to these services, and increase capacity to deliver better health outcomes for the community” said Nick.
