St John of God Subiaco Hospital expands onsite parking facilities

Following planning approval from the Town of Cambridge, construction of St John of God Subiaco Hospital’s temporary caregiver carpark has reached practical completion.

13 Dec 2021

The carpark is located off Cambridge Street, on the site of the old St John of God House, and includes 103 parking bays.

It was built to increase onsite parking and make more bays available for patients and visitors within the hospital’s existing parking facilities.

St John of God Subiaco Hospital CEO Prof Shirley Bowen said that completion of the carpark marked an important milestone for the hospital.

“The temporary caregiver carpark is the first of many initiatives to be achieved as part of St John of God Subiaco Hosptial’s major redevelopment,” she commented.

“When planning for the future of our hospital, onsite parking was a major consideration, as we recognised the significant impact it has on the patient experience.

“We are also seeking approval from the State Development Assessment Unit, within our redevelopment application, to expand our hospital’s main multi-storey carpark. This will help to accommodate the planned growth of our facilities and services.”

Once approved, the redevelopment will be the largest in St John of God Subiaco Hospital’s 123 year history.

The redevelopment will include a variety of new facilities including an eight storey Clinical Block, private Emergency Department, Mother and Baby Centre, dedicated Heart Centre and Pandemic Ward. It will also feature a dedicated Education and Research Centre, located on the site of the temporary caregiver carpark.
