Professor Shirley Bowen - Chief Executive Officer
Professor Shirley Bowen is the Chief Executive Officer of St John of God Subiaco Hospital having been appointed in June 2017. Prior to joining the hospital she was Dean, School of Medicine, Fremantle at the University of Notre Dame.
Prof Bowen has more than 20 years' experience in executive management of Hospitals and Public Health and has also maintained her practice as an Infectious Diseases Physician (FRACP). She also holds a Fellowship in Sexual Health Medicine and a Master of Medicine.
She is passionate about delivering patient centric care and is committed to visible and authentic leadership.
Joseph Pascuzzi - Director of Finance
Joseph Pascuzzi is responsible for all aspects of financial governance for St John of God Subiaco Hospital and was appointed in June 2019. Joseph is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has extensive experience in finance and commercial advisory, technical accounting and procurement in varying industries and across varying geographies.
Most recently he has worked as Commercial & Finance Director for the Health business at Serco (based at the Fiona Stanley Hospital in Western Australia), the General Manager Finance and Procurement for G4S Australia and New Zealand and prior to that he was Director, Finance Advisory for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in Perth. Joseph has also worked in the United Kingdom and Europe as Chief Financial Officer for Quercus Investment Partners and Group Financial Controller for Capital Dynamics.
Steve Cohen-Jones - Director of Business & Service Development
Steve Cohen-Jones was appointed to the newly created position of Director Business & Service Development in November 2017 and has responsibility for leading the hospital’s growth and marketing activities.
Steve has extensive leadership experience in business development and marketing, predominantly within the health sector, and has developed new brands, products, services and businesses to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the community. His qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce, with double major in Marketing and Management and he is a Graduate of the Institute of Company Directors.
Steve is passionate about the advancement of better healthcare experiences for both patients and providers.
Dr Eva Denholm - Director Medical Services
Eva Denholm was appointed as the Director of Medical Services in September 2017 and is responsible for medical governance, junior medical staff, pharmacy, clinical trials and research.
She has previously worked as Director of Clinical Services at Fremantle Hospital and as the Medical Co-Director at Osborne Park Hospital. Eva holds a Fellowship in General Surgery and also an MBA.
Jennifer Healey - Director of Mission Integration
Jennifer Healey was appointed in October 2017 and is responsible for supporting the Chief Executive Officer and executive team in providing leadership that seeks to strengthen and facilitate the Mission of St John of God Health Care.
Jennifer has a breadth of experience in leadership with prior roles including Principal of Loreto Nedlands and Director of the Office of University Relations at The University of Notre Dame Australia. Her professional qualifications include a Master of Religious Education, Bachelor of Education and Diploma of Teaching.
Jenny Brenton - Director Nursing, Clinical Operations and Excellence
Jenny Brenton was appointed in January 2018 and is responsible for leading the hospital’s nursing and midwifery services on clinical matters and the provision of exceptional patient-centred care.
Jenny brings a wealth of skills in clinical nursing, change management and leadership to the role, having previously worked as Director of Nursing at Armadale Hospital and in various senior positions at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Fremantle Hospital, the State Acute Demand Unit and St John of God Murdoch Hospital. Jenny holds a postgraduate Diploma in Coaching, Mentoring and Interpersonal Facilitation.
Marcel Willimann - A/Director of Corporate Services
Marcel Willimann was appointed Acting Director Corporate Services in March 2019.
Marcel has over 25 years of management and leadership experience in different industries, the last 16 of which have been in health care in a corporate environment. Prior roles include Manager Catering & Conferencing Services at St John of God Subiaco Hospital, Manager Catering Services Perth Northern Hospitals St John of God Health Care and professional instructor in the rank of Major in General staff in the Swiss Army prior to immigrating to Australia.
Marcel has significant expertise in leading and managing large diverse teams in different industries such as the armed forces, hospitality and health care. Experiences include strategic planning and operational efficiency, change and project management, process improvements, contracts management, strategic and operational leadership both here in Western Australia and in Switzerland. Marcel has post graduate diploma level qualifications in Business, Coaching, Leadership, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in education and political science and is a Justice of the Peace.
Jeremy Burtenshaw - Director of Redevelopment
Jeremy was appointed Director of Redevelopment in November 2018. He is a senior health services administrator with a clinical background specialising in facility activation and operational management. He is responsible for administrative oversight of the proposed redevelopment of the Subiaco site, working with a variety of external consultants, contractors and internal subject matter experts.
Prior to joining the Subiaco, Jeremy worked on a variety of recent hospital and aged care facility activations, including service design, contract management, procurement, performance measurement and transition. In the public service Jeremy served in a variety of roles including disaster management, clinical safety and quality, clinical planning and disease control.
Annie Thompson - Deputy Director Nursing, Clinical Operations and Patient Flow
Annie Thompson was appointed in September 2018 and is responsible for women and newborn services, critical care services including ICU & CCU and Cardiothoracic as well as pediatrics and general surgery wards. Previously Annie has held nursing leadership roles within South Metropolitan Health Services and Perth Children’s Hospital including Director Projects Operational Readiness (PCH), Corporate Nursing Director, Nursing Co-Director Medical and Aged Care Services and she was the Commissioning Lead that oversaw the transition of tertiary services from Fremantle Hospital & Health Service to commission Fiona Stanley Hospital.
Annie has over 25 years’ experience of nursing across many acute specialties with over 10 years in leadership and transformation roles.
David Lyle - Deputy Director Nursing, Surgical and Acute Care
As Deputy Director of Nursing, Surgical and Acute Care at St John of God Subiaco Hospital, David Lyle is responsible for inpatient surgical wards including intensive care, coronary care, Cardiovascular Intervention Lab and Nursing Pain Service. David was Manager of Surgical Services at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland and General Manager of Governance, Risk and Quality with the Bethanie Group in WA. David has over 30 years’ experience in acute nursing, aged and community services, governance and management. David holds Bachelor degrees in Nursing and Health Science, a Masters in Health Informatics, and post-graduate diplomas in critical care, cancer nursing and infection control.
Ellen Almond - Deputy Director Nursing, Women's, Children's, Newborn and Medical Nursing
Ellen Almond was appointed Deputy Director of Women’s, Children’s, Newborn and Medical Nursing in September 2019 and brings a breath of clinical experience. Ellen has worked at St John of God Subiaco Hospital for 20 years and began as a graduate nurse on Wards 43, 52 and 61. Ellen also worked as a nurse in Chelsea and Westminster, and in a HIV Clinic in London. On her return to Australia, Ellen re-joined St John of God Subiaco Hospital as a registered nurse and over time became a clinical nurse and then a nurse unit manager. Ellen holds a graduate Diploma in Health Promotion, a postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Nursing and a postgraduate Certificate in Leadership and Management.
Sarah Payne - Deputy Director of Perioperative Services
Sarah Payne was appointed as the Deputy Director of Perioperative Services in August 2018. In this role, Sarah is responsible for Perioperative Services, Short Stay Unit and Medical Procedure Unit. Sarah has over 25 years of perioperative experience and has held senior perioperative leadership roles across South, East and North Metropolitan Health Services including Director Projects Operational Readiness on projects at Fiona Stanley Hospital and Perth Children’s Hospital.
