St John of God Subiaco Hospital CEO, Professor Shirley Bowen, announced the award winners, who were nominated by other caregivers and then selected by a review panel.

“These awards recognise and honour caregivers for their outstanding contribution to our health care ministry by living our values,” Professor Shirley Bowen said.

"Delivering excellence in care and continuously improving patient experience remains at the heart of our mission, though perhaps has never been as important as it is today.”

“It is human contact that people need most when they are unwell, which is why our Pomegranate and Wexford Awards are so important.”

The Pomegranate Award is for individuals who demonstrate exemplary behaviour consistent with the core values of St John of God Health Care.

The Wexford award

The Wexford Award acknowledges the contributions of teamwork within the Hospital. It is called the Wexford Award in honour of the small dedicated team of women who began the Sisters of St John of God in Wexford in 1871.

Ward 34 was named the winner of the Wexford Award, for demonstrating excellence in clinical care in adopting best practice techniques that have decreased the separation time of babies from their mothers.

Together the caregivers have embraced the learning opportunities these techniques required and further developed the protocols through teamwork that demonstrates the values of compassion for patients, respect for caregivers and a desire to achieve excellence.

Two teams were highly commended in second place for the Wexford Awards:

The Clinical Command Implementation Team demonstrated excellent leadership and initiative while under pressure to launch the Clinical Command Centre, which has led to a better experience for patients, doctors and caregivers.

Throughout the project the implementation team demonstrated leadership and initiative, and a strong commitment to ensuring the best possible outcomes.

They also demonstrated hospitality, excellence and justice in ensuring all involved felt included and valued while implementing this significant change project.

The Occupational Safety and Health Team were also recognised for their tireless work on multiple projects that resulted in improvements in health and safety across the hospital.

Each project saw changes to procedures and process and additional training across the hospital.

The OSH team demonstrated excellence in outcomes, respect and compassion in the way they engaged caregivers in each of these challenging projects.

St John of God Subiaco Hospital congratulates all winners of the Pomegranate and Wexford Awards.
