In the past, health care services were provided months-long notice of an upcoming accreditation date. However, to better reflect day-to-day practices, the NSQHS accreditation changed to 24-hour notice in July.

St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital CEO Vanessa Unwin expressed her gratitude to hospital caregivers for their commitment and dedication to patient safety and person-centred care.

“The assessors expressed their appreciation for our warm and welcoming environment, and commented on our values, which were evident in every interaction,” Vanessa said.

“Most pleasingly, the assessors spoke to several patients and were very impressed by the feedback we received. Every patient complimented our caregivers on their compassionate care, excellent communication and shared decision making.”

All Australian hospitals and health services are required to meet the NSQHS Standards to ensure a nationally consistent level of care is provided for consumers. The assessment is critical to the accreditation and licensing of all Australian hospitals.

“To be one of the first hospitals in Western Australia to undergo short notice assessment and receive such an outstanding result is testament to our incredible caregivers and the exceptional care we deliver at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital,” Vanessa said.

To celebrate, caregivers enjoyed a special morning tea in the hospital’s onsite café.
