Local Noongar Elder Juanetia ‘Neta’ Knapp showcasing artwork surrounded by caregivers.

St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital Chief Executive Officer Vanessa Unwin said the exhibition is a celebration of the hospital’s enduring relationship with Neta.

“Over the past few years, many of our caregivers have had the privilege of creating these paintings with Neta,” Vanessa said.

“Each piece is inspired by the history and natural habitat of the land surrounding our hospital.”

“And during the creation process, Neta not only shares her talents, but also teaches us about the history of the local environment and Noongar culture.”

“Through knowledge, we can lead change. This is just the start of our reconciliation journey, and we are so grateful for Neta’s partnership and support as we learn and grow as an organisation.”

While the COVID-19 pandemic has limited gatherings within the hospital, the exhibition offers patients, visitors and caregivers an opportunity to reflect, learn and converse.

Patients also received printed copies of the paintings to enjoy from the comfort of their room.
