“I started nursing in 1994, mainly in surgical wards before moving into Endoscopy where I have worked ever since.

I have a real passion for our Endoscopy and love our unit and our team. We care for people with anything from reflux and stomach issues, to bowel or liver cancer.

We have a fantastic team in the Endoscopy Unit. We all come from different backgrounds and different disciplines, and it is great to combine all this experience and knowledge for the benefit of patient care.

There are many things I enjoy about my role. Over the years, I have gained extra qualifications in Gastroenterology and moved into the Clinical Nurse position.

I have had the opportunity to act as Nurse Unit Manager for Anna Beazley, and this has been great in giving me a different perspective of what goes on behind the scenes in managing a nursing unit.

I enjoy the fact that we are regularly encouraged and supported by our doctors to undertake research projects, most of which are quality assurance research projects and audits that support best practice.

At the end of each day, I am always glad I have the opportunity to be part of a patient’s journey.

It is great to be able to look after them from when they are admitted, during surgery and when they are in recovery. It is also good to be able to achieve this during the day to allow them to recover in comfort in their own home.”

Jenny’s story is one of many in our hospital and we are proud to acknowledge the wonderful efforts of all our nursing caregivers.

If you have had a great experience at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital, we would be happy for you to share it with us on our Facebook page.  Be sure to tag it #IND2017 #VoiceToLead
