National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2017 starts today. Each year NRW runs from the 27th May - 3rd June to celebrate and build on the respectful relationships shared by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians. This year celebrates two milestones: 50 years since the 1967 referendum which successfully changed the constitution to allow Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to be legislated for and to be recognised in the national census. And 25 years since the High Court of Australia’s landmark Mabo decision in 1992, which legally recognised that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a unique relationship to the land which then paved the way for land rights. This year's theme is "Let's take the next steps," and we are invited to ponder what will come next in our nations reconciliation journey. #NationalReconciliationWeek #NRW #Reconciliation #SJGFrankston #rehabilitation #frankston #healthcare #stjohnofgod
