On this day, the hospital will relocate all existing services from Gibb St, Berwick to 75 Kangan Drive, Berwick.

Initially, the hospital will open with 110 beds, five operating theatres and one procedure room.

“We are delighted that our doctors have seen the opportunity to either commence or increase their work with us. As a result, our five operating theatres are almost fully booked already," St John of God Berwick Hospital Chief Executive Officer Lisa Norman said.

"We are so pleased with the uptake that we are now actively exploring commissioning all 190 beds and fitting out the sixth theatre at the same time.

“This is great news for our community who will have increased access to specialist doctors in a contemporary healthcare facility.”

Intensive care and cardiac services, including the Cardiovascular Interventional Lab, will open in early February 2018.

St John of God Health Care will start the commissioning process in late 2017. Hospital commissioning involves preparing the building, our staff and our processes for a new environment. This will ensure we deliver the same standard of high quality health care delivered to our community over the years.

Significant planning and progress has been made to repurpose and rename the Gibb St facility to create a rehabilitation hospital to support the main hospital and the broader community. Management are working on ways to deliver rehabilitation services prior to the opening of the Gibb St service.

A recruitment campaign to fill about 200 new employment opportunities within the new hospital will commence in mid July.
