How long have you worked at St John of God Bendigo Hospital?

I have worked here for almost four years.

Why were you interested in working with us?

I did my placements here at St John of God Bendigo Hospital when I did my bridging course, and I realised I actually really wanted to work in this hospital because I felt really welcomed. Also, working in theatre was my dream job.

What do you enjoy most about working with us?

I love the people, especially my colleagues. They are very friendly, and very enthusiastic about their jobs.

What opportunities have you received while working with us?

When I started I was working in admissions, and I was then offered to be in the discovery program to become a Scrub Scout. So that’s how I became part of the perioperative team.

What do you love about living in Bendigo?

I do like the fact that everything is accessible. If I want a taste of the city life I can just take the train or drive down to Melbourne. It’s only about 1hr 45min by car, or about two hours by train, so it’s not bad.

What do you want other people to know about working with St John of God Health Care?

Working at St John of God Bendigo Hospital made me feel like I’m part of something. We are very close knit; we are like a family. It’s really one of the main reasons that made me stay here.

Do you and your team socialise outside of work?

Yes we definitely do! We gather together over some food. Sometimes we celebrate birthdays outside of the hospital as well. We know each other like family now.

What does St John of God Health Care do to make you feel cared about in the workplace?

Our Nurse Unit Manager always goes out of her way to celebrate special occasions like birthdays or weddings. She will give out cards for us, and we also have mums and bubs days for colleagues who have just had a baby see we can meet the new family while they are on maternity leave.
